Pathology for Hands-On Health Care Workers
Ruth Werner, LMP, NCTMB, will be in Grand Junction, Colorado November 18-20, 2005 to offer workshops in pathology for massage therapists and other hands-on health care providers. Winner of the 2005 AMTA Council of Schools Teacher of the Year Award and author of "A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology", a textbook which is used all over the world, Ruth is an engaging and dynamic lecturer.
Even for those who are already knowledgeable about pathology, these discussions will put important information into the context of how various problems impact the ways we touch and interact with our patients and clients. Fully developed handouts allow participants to take home important concepts. This exciting weekend is split into three segments:
Session I • Friday, November 18, 6pm - 10pm
Contagious and Common Skin Conditions
Contagious and Common Skin Conditions: from herpes to ringworm to psoriasis and skin cancer (and lots of others!), this lecture will review the etiology, signs and symptoms (with lots of pictures!), treatment options, and guidelines for hands-on caregivers.
Session II • Saturday, November 19, 8:30am - 12:30pm
Circulatory System Conditions
Circulatory System Conditions: this class will focus on the common, invisible but potentially dangerous conditions that affect circulatory health: deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism will be discussed, as well as the whole spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension, atherosclerosis, aneurysm, heart failure, heart attack, carotid artery disease, and stroke.
Session III • Saturday, November 19, 2pm - 6pm
Fibromyalgia and Associated Diseases
Fibromyalgia and the "Invisible Diseases": fibromyalgia is the second most commonly diagnosed rheumatic disorder in the United States, and we still don't have a clear picture of what this disorder really is. This class will focus on sorting out confusing and overlapping features of fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome.
